About Us

We started small, and called ourselves Little Projects...

The idea for Little Projects took shape around the beginning of the millennium.

In 2001, Chris Hill was asked to put on a charity Christmas concert in Berkeley Church. â€‹The concert was a success, and everyone involved wanted to do more...

...and so....

...we carried on, and did more.

Since that first concert, Little Projects have become a regular feature of the musical calendar in the area, spearheaded by a talented and dedicated team of local amateur musicians. The choice of programme has been eclectic, ranging from orchestral classics such as Bach’s sixth Brandenburg Concerto to choral pieces spanning centuries of musical composition - Monteverdi’s Beatus Vir, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Durufle's Requiem - to name but a few.

We have also been delighted to showcase works by local contemporary composers, including the world premiere of Gavin Carr’s Pour Forth Your Light O Stars, as well as a second performance of The Wanderer by ???, a setting of poems by John Masefield, programmed alongside Toward the Unknown Region by Vaughan Williams.

...but then...

...we thought a bit, and decided we wanted to give something back.

As our conductor, Chris Hill, says:

I’m from the generation that was given the gift of music freely.  I had lessons, attended residential courses all paid for by the education system.  There were also free Saturdays when the teachers welcomed us into their homes for orchestral and chamber music sessions.  They did this for the love of it.  Today’s young people do not have that opportunity and crucially some are excluded due to the cost of participating.  This charitable concert, while being fun and fulling for those taking part also has the serious aim of raising funds to help professionals who have fallen on hard times and children who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunities we’ve had.  In this way we can try to repay the gift that we were given.

So we are gathering together a cast of over 300 musicians to perform our biggest 'little project' yet, in the hope of raising a significant sum for our two wonderful charities, Help Musicians, and the Bristol Beacon Music Education Hub.
